The primary aim of the study is to develop a coherent concept of 'aspect', capable of grasping the common elements of the system of aspect in whatever language a system of this sort may exist. H. sketches the general theory of language behind his approach, along with a brief outline of the systems of mood and tense in the English verb. He then describes the system of aspect, followed by a detailed application of the theory to concrete circumstances of expression.
