This paper argues that it is not sufficient to recognize that languages have been invented, nor that metalanguage constructs the world in specific ways. One must also understand the interrelationships among language inventions, colonial history, alternative ways of language comprehension, language effects, metadiscursive regimes, and disinvention and reconstitution strategies.
