Annotation

This paper critically analyzes language ideologies in Spanish heritage language textbooks in the United States, focusing on the preface and introduction discourses to such textbooks, published between 1970 and 2000. The findings show an intertextual discourse, correlating with wider ideologies concerning university's societal role, cultural and linguistic diversity picturing within academia and society in general and the positioning of ethnic studies programs. The evolution of these ideologies is equally discussed.
