Annotation
This paper discusses how the dehumanizing rhetoric of biomedical, societal and poststructuralist discourses make little room for bodily breakdown, focusing on the ways in which two chronically ill patients, diagnosed with diabetes and epilepsy, describe their bodies and 'disabilities.' It is argued that applied linguistics in general and in particular aging-related work needs to create the possibility for more human 'body talk'.
