Annotation

This paper examines the transition from the linguistic imperialism of the (post)colonial age to the growing English dominance as a neoimperial language, exploring 'global' English as a core dimension of the Amercan empire. It further discusses the use of English worldwide, in the light of modernization and globalization, and its acceptance. Finally, it advocates a more active language policy to support ongoing efforts to maintain worldwide linguistic diversity.
