This paper explores how circumstances are systematically included in the analysis of social interactions, offering an example of how psychoanalytic child psychotherapists construe group therapy occasions. Using work of Austin (1961, 1962) and Anscombe (1957), it is argued that social interactions happen "here-and-now”, whilst also being situated in participants’ lives and social arrangements in general.
