Annotation
This article critically reviews three Relevance Theoretic (RT) ideas on connectives: the conceptual-procedural meaning distinction, connectives as strictly procedural elements, and monosemy as the best account for multifunctional connectives. As colloquial conversations call these ideas into question, it is argued that conceptual and procedural characteristics can coexist within a single marker, that the apposition markers concept ought to be reconsidered, that conceptual expressions can connect two utterances, and that polysemy offers generalizations which are lost in a monosemic perspective.
