Building on a function-based language approach (Givón, 1993; Halliday, 1994) and a sociopragmatic framework (Fetzer, 2004; Gumperz, 1992), this study uses an integrated perspective to explore form and function of theme zones in English media discourse, focusing especially on the communicative genres of political interview and editorials.
