This article proposes two complementary perspectives that can be employed to reveal what is ‘hidden’ under news texts, reporting on emotions, addressing the journalistic ideals of objectivity and factuality. These two approaches respectively draw on Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar and the Appraisal framework.
