This paper proposes a model to conceptualize massive terrorist attacks as media events and examines which societal function this serves. Whilst there is a risk of reinforcing the terror event by giving it a public stage, journalists acting as patriots subvert the terrorist message into one of solidarity and endurance against the terrorist threat.
