This study systematically reviews a range of possible language maintenance factors among French immigrants in the United States and American immigrants in France, ranging from national context to family dynamics and the social status of the two concerned languages. It also presents some considerations on the emerging research on atypical "fortunate" immigrants in the globalization age.
