Annotation

This paper argures that Tamil linguistic culture's Ausbau project only generated limited success, mainly given its exaggerated concern with and attachment to purism. In the end, the fact that Indian higher education has always been in English, and carries on to oppose any switch to other languages of instruction, has strongly hindered scientific and technological register development in any South Asian language, Tamil included.
