This paper compares resources of Spanish online language learning and models of spoken discourse in Spanish as a second language textbooks with spontaneously occurring conversations. It is argued that the focus on grammatical characteristics disturbs the simplification of conversational characteristics crucial for the materials' psycholinguistic authenticity.
