This paper examines the potential of the linguistic landscape as source of input in second language acquisition in general, and especially in the acquisition of pragmatic competence, and in the acquisition of multimodal literacy abilities and multicompetence. It is concluded that the linguistic landscape constitutes a learning context which can also be employed for second language acquisition awareness raising.
