This study on word accent distinction in the West-Limburgian dialect of Hasselt, suggests that accent 1 stays lexically toneless, while accent 2 gets marked through lexical tone. Furthermore, whereas eastern Limburgian speakers link tones with sonorant moras, Hasselt speakers link tones to syllables.
