Annotation

This paper problematises Tanzanian higher education students' writing as social practice from the lecturers' discursive practices perspective. The lecturers' practices are explored in terms of how they counteract students' access to the universities' privileged literacy practices and how they function to support dominance in the Tanzanian educational system, which gives preference to Kiswahili in primary school and to English in secondary and higher education.
