Annotation

Drawing on Spolsky's (2004) language policy model, this study explores the family language policy factors that influence first language maintenance among the second generation of Russian-Jewish immigrants in Israel. The findings show the vital role of literate first language instruction in family and non-formal educational contexts. Additionally, a series of non-linguistic factors engender advantageous backgrounds for heritage language maintenance among emigrants.
