This paper discusses how the rules of the basically sequential and domain-related development of Mauritius's three main languages Creole, French and English are sometimes broken, e.g. in the case of two young boys who are asked to play school and only use English, but switch to other languages too. Both children thus demonstrate a realistic knowledge of the different domains and functions of different languages in the classroom.
