This contrastive study explores how Chinese rhetoric affects expository writing in English as a second language by the majority Chinese Han group, and the Tibetan and Mongolian ethnic minority groups. It is suggested that future intracultural contrastive studies need to take into account students' first language transfer, their English language skills and learning experiences, as well as other developmental factors.
