Annotation

This paper describes the recent growth of Korean as a foreign language in the USA, attributable to the enhanced South Korean visibility on the international stage, higher numbers of Korean immigrants to the USA, and greater involvement of the Korean government in the international teaching of Korean. An analysis of instructional contexts demonstrates a growing conflict between Korean as a heritage language learners' needs and those of Korean as a foreign language learners.
