This paper explores forms and functions of hand-gestures in two Democratic Presidential Candidates' primary debates during the presidential campaign of 2004. It is shown that almost all candidates employed a shared code of pragmatic gesticulation, thus offering viewers visual structure that facilitates speech parsing and processing.
