Annotation

Drawing on Appraisal theory (Martin and White, 2005), this paper explores speakers' contributions to the interactive rise and fall of emotion in problematic telephone conversations involving Filipino customer service call centre representatives and American clients who initiate the calls in order to find information, clarification, or the resolution of a problem.
