Drawing on recent work concerning the interface of grammar and interaction (cf. Ochs, Schegloff and Thomson 1996), this paper explores the interactional role of siga as conventionalized ironic marker in spontaneous Cypriot-Greek conversations in the positions where it occurs, and reveals a much more complex role than suggested by a dictionary definition of its meaning.
