Annotation

From a purist perspective, this paper argues that much of the usage of Navajo language in current Navajo written poetry, in particular English dominant poetry, functions as an icon of proper Navajo use. In erasing the actual sociolinguistic diversity, including bilingual Navajo, Navajo poetry generates an imagined Navajo language community.
