This corpus-based analysis explores the discourse functions of Mexican Spanish interrogative allo-repetitions from the viewpoint of both their conversational role as repair devices and as linguistic tactics to communicate (im)politeness in interaction. The various politeness strategies performed by interrogative allo-repetitions appear to depend more on the sort of verbal interaction and cultural context in which they occur, then on their conversational function.
