This paper discusses what new institutionalism can add to Bourdieu and vice versa. It argues for instance that new institutionalists' bigger attention to the state as a partially autonomous influence on the journalistic domain helps to remedy a deficit in Bourdieu's model. It also demonstrates that a broader view could improve both approaches.
