This paper discusses how respondents of a communication needs analysis in business, conducted at the University of Cape Town (UCT) during the period 2001-2002, recommended a complementary high- (or computer-mediated) and low- (or face-to-face) technology approach to communicative competence, particularly in South Africa with its First and Third-World features.
