This paper discusses the reaffirmation of the value of the image and its social consequences from the perspective of Shlain's revelation of a relation between the historical rise of alphabet literacy and patriarchy and from the perspective of the place of images in Jacques Lacan's poststructuralist, psychoanalytical subject theory.
