Annotation

This sociolinguistic overview of the life cycle of the Tamil language in South Africa, deals with its origins and demography, dialect characteristics, changes due to contact with South African languages and obsolescence. Focussing on the colloquial Tamil variety, it shows similarities and differences between the two transplanted Indian languages, Tamil and Bhojpuri-Hindi, with regard to linguistic change.
