Annotation

This paper reports on initial language shift stages in a small-scale study carried out on 15 Afrikaans speakers, in their final phase of preparing to emigrate to New Zealand. The study examines the emigrants' linguistic attitudes towards both Afrikaans (their mother tongue) and English and provides a view on possible long-term linguistic outcomes.
