Annotation

This paper argues that the language activism of the past decade in the white South African Afrikaans-speaking community essentially constitutes a nationalist movement, which has been facilitated by the South African constitution as well as some trends in sociolinguistic literature. Preliminary comments are provided regarding the movement's nature, its main agents and its underlying rationale.
