Annotation

This article explores the concept of linguistic human rights in Malawi under the dictatorship of former President Banda (1964-1994). Dr. Banda's language policies favoured Chichewa, his own mother tongue, whilst efforts were made to marginalise other Malawian languages. It was argued that multilingualism could form a threat to national unity.
