The paper describes a natural language generator program that has knowledge about social and psychological aspects of conversation such as relative social status of speaker and hearer, models of the various hearers, some perception of the hearers' interest and sympathies, as well as its own purposes with the conversation. The program contains a set of strategies that govern the decisions made during the generation process to produce texts tailored to each hearer.
