This longitudinal study of international news coverage in Taiwan between 1954 and 1987, demonstrates that news regarding the United States, to which Taiwan is economically and politically subordinate, still dominates despite Taiwan's own remarkable economic development. Yet the construction of Taiwan's own international news gathering apparatus points at the feasibility of a dependent nation's communication development.
