Annotation

This paper discusses how the television movie on the 2002 murder on gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard drafts a public memory of gay men that enhances heteronormativity. The Laramie Project of HBO offers an alternative public memory that conveys a more progressive view of gays and lesbians. This paper emphasizes how public memory develops through a range of television and print journalism drafts and then via dramatized television treatments.
