This study argues that the violent Birmingham local Sikh demonstration against the production of the play 'Behzti', perceived as offensive to Sikh religious beliefs, constituted not mainly a clash between secular and religious values, but a more complex confrontation between liberal and religious faith, 'race', culture and gender.
