This study argues that ethnically labelling a New York dance night as South Asian could simplify an increased sociopolitical solidarity within the Asian diaspora in New York City. Such labelling could on the other hand be detrimental to diasporic interests, as it depicts the South Asian diasporic community as a homogenous entity.
