Annotation

This paper discusses the controversial origins and contested life of 'Front Line Family', the first British domestic serial drama (1941), largely barred from the BBC in its early years because of its contested ‘feminine’ and ‘American’ form, but broadcast on the North American Service, as an explicit propaganda tool aimed at stimulating U.S. entry into the Second World War.
