This case study of the independent Tasmanian online news site, the Tasmanian Times, explores a series of critical issues in, and the deeply rooted social, cultural and historical processes underlying current media culture and journalistic practices. It had already been shown that news media in culturally and geographically marginal regions is important in the construction and workings of the 'network society'.
