Annotation

This study demonstrates that bilingual children do not have a consistent advantage over monolinguals in word, syntactic and phonological metalinguistic awareness. Reconsidering these findings using a different conception of metalinguistic ability, shows reliable bilingual advantages on tasks that exhibit great demands on control yet not on tasks that exhibit great demands on analysis.
