Annotation

Employing evidence from a wide range of sources, this study attempts to explain why, in a period of rapid industrial expansion (1800-1914), large numbers of mainly Flemish-speaking Belgian migrant workers were so readily assimilated into the local Romance-speaking community of Lille.
