This paper tries to apply Swales' (1990) Move-Step model (of research article introductions) to a different genre within a different type of discourse community, proposing a Relationships and Confidence (RECON) model of the rhetorical organization of chairmen's statements in annual reports issued by British companies. Finally, the paper discusses some pedagogical potentials of a Move-Step analysis for raising English for special purposes students' genre awareness as a way of improving their courses.
