This article sets out to demonstrate that a modular approach, combining textual, pragmatic, semantic and structural components, adds to a new and apt description, from a global perspective, of the discursive strategy of reformulation, as shown in the case of the reformulation sequence indicated by c'est-à-dire in written French.
