Annotation

This study argues that the construction of professional discourse constitutes a dynamic, three-layered -cognitive, social and societal- process. It contrasts the European with the American perspective, and discusses various approaches in relation to the three layers. It is suggested that a renewal of the field should include a more holistic and multidimensional perspective and a unification of research on the written and spoken sides of professional communication.
