Annotation

This study is the first to indicate a decline in English as a second language production proficiency with length of residence and age in older Japanese speaking learners. Not all relevant factors, such as motivation or attitude, were controlled for, however, but the findings suggest that the initial one to two immersion years may be the most important ones for increasing phonological ability.
