Using data from CETEMPúblico, an on-line corpus of contemporary written Portuguese, this study explores formal and functional sides of text constructions founded on a justification coherence relation, expressly marked by a connective. It is argued that the pragmatic justification relation requires both an inference process and a speech acts sequence.
