This study employs corpus methodology to explore the role of the 'man versus woman' and 'boy versus girl' noun pairs in gender identity construction in five different Greek genres: newspaper news and opinion articles, and male, female and general interest magazines. The results point to the prominence of genre and audience in gender construction and to a basic asymmetry in the handling of the two genders.
