This article addresses folklore practices and language ideologies linked to the project for the compilation and publication of oral linguistic traditions in 1930s Greece. The systematic analysis of local folklore vernacular entextualization practices in a Southern Peloponnese Maniat village, illuminates the mediated modes in which 'authentic' voices become indices of nationally classified regional identities.
