This paper proposes to approach human pragmatics from a comparative perspective in the biological sense, according to which human pragmatics is concerned with employing semiotic resources for goals in the social relationships domain. The discussion refers to a video-recorded fragment of conversation featuring Lao speakers during their rural home visit.
