This article presents Yamaguchi's native grammarian’s view of Japanese, offering an illustrative example of a dominant Japanese school of National Language Studies' perspective on language and culture. This provides the opportunity to observe a different grammatical tradition and the cultural or (social) pragmatic dimension of grammatical (and pragmatic) analysis.
